Picturesque Market
The university town Goettingen has not been particularly kind to its architectural heritage in recent years, but now it seems to want to make amends. A block of several old buildings has been restored in downtown Goettingen. The separate courtyards were joined together and covered with a steel and glass roof to form a new market hall, proof that there’s a lot to learn from the past when planning for the future. Hagemeyer & Partner, Architects modeled their design for the supporting construction on historical structures from the 19th century. The market, as a concession to the climate of northern Germany, takes place under the shelter and protection of a transparent glass roof. The ground floor is completely given over to selling space, the first floor is intended for use as restaurants and offices.
